The music of Joseph Eidson contains rhythmic drive, crisp harmonies, and a preference for lyrical melodies. While a majority of his output is for live performers, an ongoing project utilizes technology to create music using the sounds and methods of video game composers during the 1980s and early 1990s. These short pieces called chiptunes are varied in style and substance, each containing unique challenges limited only by imagination and software design. Many of the tracks are featured on the “Quirky Minecraft” web series from Sparhawk Gaming on YouTube. In the past year Joseph released two albums of chip music via Bandcamp and current projects include combining live performers with Game Boy audio.
Chiptune using 1x LSDJ, originally written for the 2013 LSDJ Showdown held by NoiseChannel.org. Stylistically the track mixes ambient materials with a strong sense of melody.
The soundtrack to indie game “Cottage Quest” is a marvel of pointillist synths and chiptune influence—charming and catchy all at once. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 6, 2023
If the Phantom of the Opera wrote video game music, it might sound something like the sweeping, stately songs on “Place of Honor.” Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 25, 2023
